Hands on Exotics offers a wide range of presentations and programs for schools, childcare centers, community centers, libraries, and similar educational settings.

With hands-on experiences with animals like kangaroos and lemurs the learning is extremely engaging, memorable, and fun!

Check below for examples of our programs. In all cases our presentations are extremely educational as well as extremely fun and hands on.

Junior Safari

This presentation focuses on animals that children may have as pets in their home. Teaching responsible animal ownership and care is very important to us at Hands on Exotics. Most of our animals are ex-pets or rescues.

Children will learn the basic needs of pet animals and how much work and responsibility they can be. This option is appropriate for all ages.

The cost for this presentation is significantly lower than other presentations as it does not include animals that require a lot of space or training. 8 of the following animals will be included: bunnies, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, chinchillas, ferrets, rats, sugar gliders, parrots, snakes large and small snakes, small lizards, tortoises, and more!

Format

Our visits are typically a mix of presentation and meet-and-greet formats. We spent 50-75% of the time doing a formal hand-on presentation with educational content then try to leave some time at the end for more casual interaction, Q&A, and pictures. We also recommend shorter presentations for younger children and longer presentations for older children as attention spans vary across different ages. For the youngest children, we recommend no more than a 30 minute presentation. For the older children we recommend 45 minute presentations. Below are a couple of examples of how we would structure a visit.

Our goal is to give each kid a chance to interact with each of the animals, as we believe this has the greatest impact. For this reason we recommend classroom size groups of no more than 20 or so children. You can have as many people in the group as you want but the larger the group the less interaction opportunity each child will get.

Examples:

Daycare with 20 preschoolers and 40 school aged children:

We would recommend a 2 hour visit with 30 minutes for the preschool age children and 45 minutes for each group of 20 school aged children.

School with 4 kindergarten classes (15 in each) and 5 primary school classes (20 in each):

We would recommend 30-45 minutes per kindergarten class and 45-60 minutes per primary school class. And this would likely have to be split up into two days.

Library with a 50-person capacity

We would recommend 2 handlers for a 1.5 hour visit including a 45-60 minute presentation and a 30-45 minute meet-and greet afterwards.
